Outline of the job

This is a full-time position (37.5hours per week) with responsibility for serving/cooking food and beverages to visitors and reporting to the catering manager.

The successful candidate will have good interpersonal skills, a smart appearance and a confident and methodical approach to dealing with food.  The candidate will also demonstrate a passion for selling and pleasing people.  Previous experience in a hands on “front of house/kitchen focused” hospitality business is essential.

The candidate will be required to offer support to the kitchen operation which will include cooking and preparing food.  The role is also customer facing and involves direct and constant interaction with visitors.  The candidate must be able to deliver consistent quality to varying number of visitors through the application of good preparation and planning.

The role requires the candidate to be able to work daytime and occasional evening shifts on any day of the week.  Peak visitors occur at weekends and during holiday periods. Leave is not permitted over bank holiday weekends and during school holidays. Any existing holiday commitments should be noted on your application form and we will take these into consideration when determining your suitability for the role.

Interviews will take place on Wednesday 21st February. Candidates selected for interviews will be required to give a short verbal presentation using the following description:

“Firestone Kitchen, based at Kents Cavern is opening on February 10th 2018. The setting will provide subtle links to the caves, using Kents Caverns incredible geology and history. Food served in Firestone Kitchen will have two main themes: ‘wild’ and ‘Devon’. A key focus will be on quality of food with links to some of the best suppliers in Devon and an unbeatable customer service”.

Using this approach candidates are asked to create one ‘signature dish’ which they feel meets this brief to be verbally presented during their interview.
