Kents Cavern is a spectacular natural cave on the coast of south Devon.  The cave is only a short walk  from the beach and the beautiful South West Coast Path.  It is easy to access by foot, by coach and public transport and is open for organised school visits all year.

Undoubtedly Kents Cavern is one of the most special caves in the country. The incredible geology and rich archaeological heritage of the cave has been astounding scientists and visitors alike for centuries. Records show the mysteries of the caves have been enticing explorers to venture into their depths since 1571. However, archaeological evidence and research reveals that people and animals have been visiting the caves for hundreds of thousands of years.

A Primary School visits to Kents Cavern can cover many themes: Victorian explorers, life during the Stone Age, rocks and fossils, cave formation, light and dark, sound and smell, maps, creative writing, art and the English Riviera Geopark.

Kents Cavern Key Stage 1&2 options: 

• The Sensory Experience
  To stimulate the 5 natural human senses, with an exploration of the vocabulary of the senses and a chance to appreciate the cave's impact to visitors over the last 350,000 years. Covers material relevant to Key Stage 1 in the history, science, geography and english curriculum.
• Early Times
  A selection of experiences from the earliest human visitors to the Victorian Explorers. Relevant to Key Stage 2 in the history and geography curriculum.
• Rocks & Minerals
  An introduction to rocks and minerals, their formation, description, properties and simple classification. A closer look at Limestone and the formation of the caves and their features. Relevant to Key Stage 2 in the science and geography curriculum.
• Pre or post visit activity sheets available
  Educational activity sheets are available when you book a visit to the caves covering many aspects of the national curriculum.
