Cutting Edge

Free exhibition at Kents Cavern
13 Feb 2010 to 31 Jan 2011

Stones transformed into a thousand tools

With a wide range of objects from the collection of Exeter's Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) this new exhibition in the Kents Cavern visitor centre shows the variety of raw materials used to produce hand axes, spear heards and scrapers.

Find out whether people used local rocks or traded stone over long distances.  See how the physical properties of the stone influence the final shape, type and quality of the tool.

Discover the latest dating techniques and how scientists can determine the source of the stone. Examine and handle stone tools and learn how to identify them.

Usual cave entry fees apply to visit the caves.
