Education

As one of the most important Stone Age Sites in Europe, Kents Cavern is a fantastic place for a school field trip for all ages.

Nestled on the South Devon coast in Torquay, in the UNESCO English Riviera Global Geopark, Kents Cavern is the only place in Devon where you can walk in the footsteps of Stone Age people!

500,000 years ago, humans and animals began using the cave as a place to shelter and left behind tools and bones for archaeologists to find thousands of years later.

Bring your group on an educational visit to explore the cave and find out all about their prehistoric ancestors. Step into the Stone Age by getting in touch with us today via email [email protected] or by telephone 01803 215136.

Inspirational Experience

Any visit to Kents Cavern is an inspirational experience.

Our specialist education team will lead you on an exciting journey through the cave system, telling you the story of rocks that are older than the dinosaurs, Stone Age people that lived here with extinct animals, Roman visitors and Victorian archaeologists.

Our educational visits have been developed in line with National Curriculum topics at every Key Stage, in a way that inspires creativeness and sparks the imagination of both children and adults.

We welcome all types of formal and informal education groups, from Early Years settings right up to adult learners, with the ability to offer bespoke visits for topics and themes that you cant find on our website.

Preliminary Visits

We are able to offer a free preliminary visit to Kents Cavern for teachers and group leaders who are booking visits with us and need to carry out their own risk assessment. You can view our risk assessment guidelines and other important documentation here.

Free Educational Videos

We love to educate, but we understand that visiting us is not always possible. Our education team have developed a series of videos highlighting some of the key learning points that we cover with groups, and whilst we cannot substitute the experience of heading underground, these short films could be a great learning resource for educators that are situated just that little bit too far away to make visiting the cave viable.

Take a look at the different Key Stage tabs to discover the learning themes that we are able to offer.
