The Life & Tides of the Moon

Discovery Evening at Kents Cavern

Our Moon has played a vital role in the evolution and ongoing progress of life on Earth and we would not be here without it. This lecture explores how the Moon came to be, how its presence shaped the development of our planet and how its steady pull continues to support the flourishing of nature.

The talk also touches on how the Moon influenced the environments - the same ones our early human ancestors depended on. Changing tides, shifting coastlines and stable rhythms in light and darkness helped create the conditions that supported migration, adaptation and survival. These wider forces ultimately shaped the landscapes that our prehistoric communities explored, including places like Kents Cavern where evidence of early human life has been found.

Join us for a fascinating journey that connects the science of the Moon with the long story of life on Earth and our own human origins.
