Origins Dig starts March 30th

The Darwin200 Origins Dig at Kents Cavern starts on 30th March

A team of archaeologists from the Universities of Durham and Sheffield will begin excavating at Kents Cavern from 30th March until 12th April to discover more about the Neanderthals that lived in the caves tens of thousands of years ago. They also hope to learn more about the origins of Kents Cavern's use as a human shelter, and establish firm dates for the first occupation of the cave by early members of our own species.

Visitors to the caves will be able to see the dig in action as part of the guided tour but we are also allowing public access to the dig site between 10 and 11am from Thur 2nd to 9th April for just £2.
